WHAT WE DO : ADVOCACY : BRAC REPORT One Less Car’s BRAC Report In the next five years over 28,000 new households will be relocating to the Baltimore Metropolitan Area because of the recommendations of the US Military’s Base Realignment and Closing Commission (BRAC). Thousands of people currently living around bases in New Jersey and Virginia will be coming to the Fort Meade and Aberdeen areas. What they will find is a transportation network that is outdated and congested. In an effort to engage policy makers and planners, One Less Car prepared a 10-page report entitled “Moving Forward with BRAC”. The report outlines simple ways in which the State of Maryland and the jurisdictions of the Baltimore area can create a safer and more sustainable transportation network. Our suggestions include the adoption of a state wide Complete Streets policy, more bicycle lanes and trails and improvements to the existing mass transit system.
